Maintenance FAQs

Why should I maintain my PC?

  • Cleaning your PC is an important part of ownership, just like how most people wash their car frequently, it's important to do the same with your PC (but don't try to use water and soap!).
  • Dust buildup over time can eventually cause restricted airflow, causing your fans to need to spin faster to move the same amount of air, which will make your system louder even when nothing is running.
  • Beyond the dust that will build up in your PC, its also important to replace the thermal paste on your processor and graphics card. Thermal paste will dry out over time and transfer heat less efficiently. This isn't something to worry about as often as removing dust build up, but if you have had your PC for a while, its probably something worth sorting out.
  • Appearance is another reason why maintenance is important, if you care about how your system looks, then after a while it will look dirty and dusty if not cleaned or maintained. Also, if you choose to sell your PC, proper maintenance and good presentation will mean you are able to fetch more for your used build than a dusty, un-loved PC.

How often do I need to maintain my PC?

  • We recommend cleaning your PC out once every 12 months (or every 6 months if you have pets that shed hair or ever smoke near the PC).
  • It's not usually necessary to have thermal paste replaced this frequently, so usually every 2 years is sufficient for thermal paste replacement.

What can I do to maintain my PC myself?

  • Cleaning your PC by yourself can be easy if you're decent with tech. Cans of compressed air can be bought cheaply and are an effective way to blow away dust.
